Site Visit Toolbox
Do you know what you need to bring on site? Here are some handy checklists you can use when you’re packing up for your next site visit. These can also be used as a jumping off point to create your own packing lists tailored to your specific job requirements.
Site Access: Here’s a quick checklist to make sure you’re prepared to actually get on the site. Getting hung up at the gate or trying to find a parking spot can make you 15 minutes late to your site inspection.
On-Site POC
Directions
Site Access (photo ID, security clearance, etc.)
Parking Information (on-site parking, nearby lots)
Car Box: I like to keep a cardboard box filled with things I may need for site visits in the trunk of my car. That way I’m always prepared and don’t have to go on a long scavenger hunt before every site visit. It’s also very handy for when you are carpooling with a coworker and can just transfer the box to their trunk.
PPE (hard hat, vest, safety glasses, PFD, ear plugs, face masks, gloves, steel toe boots, etc.)
Pens/Pencils + Notebook (standard notebook or write in the rain)
Clipboard
Hair Ties
Emergency Change of Clothes (stuff that’s safe for the site but you won’t miss in your wardrobe like old jeans, company t-shirt, sweatshirt, & socks)
Rain Jacket/Wind Breaker
Measuring Tape (6-foot mini key-chain sized & 25-foot normal sized)
Sharpie or Paint Marker (for marking up any installations that need correction)
Fold-up Tote (for carrying extra supplies or miscellaneous items)
Towel
Tissues
Site Specific: So you can’t really keep everything in your car box. Site specific information and tools communal to the office will need to be packed up just prior. It’s also a good idea to bring printouts for reference and in case of any technical difficulties.
Drawing Printouts
Specification Printouts
Permit Printouts
Inspection Spreadsheet Printouts
Tools (anything specific you may need such as calipers, thermometer, level, extra long measuring tape, weld gauges, etc.)
Electronics: If you need some technological resources, you’ll want to make sure everything is fully charged and ready to go before you get on site.
Laptop + Charger
Portable Wifi
Portable Charger + Charger
Phone + Charger
Camera + Charger + Extra Memory Cards
Tote Bag: Extra goodies to pack up in a tote to throw in the passenger seat.
