Steel Toes = Frozen Toes

IMG_3381.jpg

This little piggy went to site, this little piggy worked from home, this little piggy had OSHA training, this little piggy had none, this little piggy went in a steel toe boot and came out frozen.

At the very start of my career, I bought myself one pair of safety boots. Uninsulated because I’d be wearing them in both summer and winter. Steel toe because they were the cheaper than composite. Made total sense, seemed like an awesome decision… Until winter came.

Steel toes turn to f***ing ICE in the winter. If I’m spending hours outside watching piles be driven into place, it doesn’t matter how many socks I’m wearing. The ice cold steel freezes through all the layers.

If you’re looking for a single boot for you to use throughout the year, I recommend going for the composite. As long as they certified under the right standard, they’re just as safe as steel. (Note that there are plenty of other pros and cons between composite and steel that you can google.) With an extra twenty bucks or so, you can save your toes from freezing off next winter.
